“Manta Ray Heaven”

Saturday, April 14th, 2012

Here’s a short video of  a “Manta Ray” dive off the shores of the “Big Island, Hawaii”, one of our favorite dives.  This past weekend in Kailua Kona, Big Island – on 4.9.12
we went out with a new  crew from Big Island Divers – I highly recommend this dive operation, first rate and professional for both the experienced diver and the recreational snorkeler.

If you have not done a dive such as this, you should.

Hawaii never fails to provide a fresh perspective of our “Mother Earth” … or

Papah?naumoku?kea

Papa (mother earth) and W?kea (father sky) were two of the most recognized Hawaiian ancestors. The union of Papa, worshipped as a primordial force of creation with the power to give life and to heal, and W?kea, worshipped as paternal sky, created and gave birth to the entire archipelago in the vast expanses. The name describes a fertile woman giving birth to a wide stretch of islands beneath a benevolent sky. (sic)

I would have to say, the majority of our (my wife & I) most incredible life experiences have been on the islands of Hawaii. Lava fields flowing, earth being created, the sea life  thriving with magical sounds as the dolphins pass by and the Hump Backs sing their songs of life… incredible.

“Kona Palms”

“Kona Palms”

Aloha,

Yes, it has been awhile since my last post, please forgive me. In the world of connectivity this may be unacceptable. however, life does go on, and thus does creativity.

Sometimes the creative flow gets clogged up in me even in the world of my Hawaiian Paradise.  However, nun-the-less, I hope you enjoy this latest image.

I have been reviewing this image and contemplating what to do with it as I do with many of my images. It is not a rarity but a constant dilemma I find that, when inspired, I will go a little nuts with the camera and end up with multiple images that I truly favor, and then find myself somewhat perplexed as to what to do with them.

I’m sure it’s a familiar position to be in for most artists, at least I hope so. It’s not an easy decision for me to decide on which image will make it to the “public eye”. I have spent many years shooting, and over the course of time, I have found it difficult, at times,  to allow myself the creative freedom when it comes to introducing new work.

Photography is somewhat of a stepchild of the art world and to produce work that is acceptable to the discerning public and art critics, while standing firm by your creative nature and artistic eye is a constant challenge.

With that said, when I get stuck, I am never disappointed when I finally decide to fall back on and trust my passion of the work itself. In my line of work the passion lies within the canvas of my lens.

Art does not have to be complicated, but rather derived from your passion within. When I allow and accept this simple notion to sink in, I once again find the joy of creativity in it’s simplest form.

Thank you for your support as always.

This image was shot in Kailua Kona on the big Island the night before the recent Japanese earthquake and Tsunami of March 11th, 2011. I have decided to produce 25 with this edition. Size 20″ x 60″.  The name “Kona Palms”.

Having fun w/ post editing.

Saturday, November 20th, 2010

Good morning & Aloha,

After waking up this morning and taking another look of the bay image from last night, I saw something different in the photograph. I think this is what they mean by taking a second take look. In my case, I usually take several “2nd looks” in my attempt to produce the vision in my minds eye. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.

Here’s the same image from last night, however one built on a little fantasy. I have always been intrigued by the moon, and on occasion spend many nights shooting the moon… for no other reason than pure enjoyment.

I’ve been thinking about writing an article on post production vs post creation. Hmm? Lets see if I can’t get that article written this coming week. A hot topic for some I’m sure.  ;-)

Until the next time – here’s the image. I hope your senses are stimulated by it one way or the other.

Night shot – TV – Camera Raw

Saturday, November 20th, 2010

Playing a little with the night skyline.

This shot taken tonight at ~10:19 p.m. The lights in the background were too tempting, I was inspired.
Camera & setting information => Canon 1ds – f2.8, 100mm TV @ 13s and ISO 250. Post production camera raw… fun.

I have to say this image is inspiring me to do more night shots. Playing with the time value limited to 30s without bulb mode. Use cable release for bulb settings.

Let me know what you think… Comments always welcome – Zack?

Aloha

“Deal or No Deal”

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Aloha & good morning to all.

I want to thank all of you that responded to our “You Decide” post. After much thought, I have decided on the “Sepia” tone for the this image. Yes I know, there were more votes for the color image, however after testing it out at our show this past Tuesday night – the Sepia won out hands down.

So this is  what i’ll do to hopefully make it up to you folks that like the color version. If you go to Ocean Arts Hawaii “Sea Turtles Honu” section we will give a 20% discount on either the Sepia or Color version of this image in any of the offered sizes for the entire month of September 2010.

After September, the color version will be removed and not offered again. Does that sound fair :-) ?

Mahalo & a hui hou,

-Glenn

What the “blog” am I doing?

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

So now that I am “blogging” now what? I have been reading all I can about blogging, starting a blog, articles, titles, topics, links and more. Hm? A little overwhelming I must say.
